What kinds of massage do you offer?
- Swedish
- Neuromuscular/Deep Tissue
- Pregnancy
- Infant
- Manual Lymph Drainage
- In-Home Massage (any of our regular services offered in your home. Please see Pricing for details).
Are there any illnesses that would mean I could not get a massage?
- Yes! If you have any questions, please call prior to your appointment. However, here are a few to consider:
- Vomiting, fever (above 100), or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
- Any infectious bacterial or viral illness, or fungus. Some, like athlete's foot may just involve avoiding one area.
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure.
- Peripheral neuropathy.
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (some services may still be appropriate).
- Kidney Failure (for Manual Lymph Drainage).
- Other illnesses may require adjusting the massage. Safety is key - for you, the therapist, and future clients. Please talk over any health concerns you may have.
Should I cancel my appointment if we just found bedbugs?
- Yes, yes you should. This would be considered an emergency and you would not be charged for the cancellation.
- For bedbugs, lice, fleas, or similar infestation - please wait to reschedule until the situation has been addressed and the bugs are gone.
- If you have bedbugs, fleas, lice, or similar, I will be not be able to do any in-home services until the situation is addessed.
Deep Tissue - that hurts a lot, right?
- No, but that is one of the most common misconceptions about massage. Deep tissue (or neuromuscular work) simply means isolating and addressing specific muscles. Often these are deeper than the surface. If you were to rate your pain on a scale of 1 (doesn't hurt) to 5 (Ow! Ow! Hurts a LOT!), the work should never go above a 3 (hurts so good).
What exactly does 'undress to your comfort level' mean?
- It means first and foremost, you need to be comfortable during your massage (or your muscles won't relax!). As massage therapists, we have more access to your muscles if we are not working around undergarments. However, we are happy to work around (or over) underpants if you are more comfortable leaving them on. If you feel you need to leave on more than your underpants, please talk with your massage therapist to customize your session.
Sooo, I've heard you can request sexual favors from massage therapists.
- No
- Unfortunately this has its roots in truth. For many years, up to the present, massage therapy has been one area used by the sex trade. Please be aware, many of these 'therapists' are victims of human trafficking and are not participating willingly.
- Just to be clear, no. Haven does not participate in ANY WAY with any sexual related services. Please see the Policy on Inappropriate Behavior. Your session will end immediately and you will be responsible for the full cost.
I see you charge more for in-home (visiting) services. What if a group of us signed up together?
- We can definitely talk about rates for group gatherings. Give me a call!
I had a massage before and it really hurt. I don't think I like massage.
- That is understandable! I have been in that position and wasn't sure if I was supposed to speak up, or if it was just supposed to be painful. Please rest assured, massage should NOT be hurting you. I absolutely want you to speak up if we hit a tender area. If that is hard for you, we can use a number scale, or red-light green-light. Whatever works for you.
So (this area) hurts a lot. Can we just skip it?
- Short answer - yes. Its your session. However, pain is often a sign of dysfunction, and we may be able to go in carefully (respecting pain limits) and begin to address the area. If it is painful due to a recent injury or infection, we may need to avoid the area.
Are you going to try to sell me a bunch of stuff?
- Nope. I don't sell anything.
Am I going to have to listen to pipes and bells and stuff?
- Guess what - you can listen to whatever you would like! I've got a few different selections, but we can hook up your phone or music player to the speaker if you prefer! I no longer have the ability to play CD's. That radio died. Moment of silence.
But, but, but, I like pipes and bells and stuff.
- No worries, we have some of the 'regular' massage music too.
Psst. (what if I fart during the massage)?
- Then you say excuse me and we move on. That's just good manners.
- But seriously. It happens! Your body is relaxing. I would FAR rather have you pass gas because you are relaxed then have you hold it in and be all tense and worried your whole massage. Let fly and relax my friend. You will get no judgement from me.
What if I'm running late? Can I just change my appointment to 30 or 45 min?
- You can, but please keep in mind you are still responsible for the full cost of the service time you scheduled. If you are running a few minutes late, please let me know if you are able to (If you are 15 min or more late without contacting, I assume you are not coming and may leave). We will adjust the time of your massage to get you as much of your scheduled time as possible.
So, what if I just cancelled last minute instead, or rescheduled?
- Please see the cancellation policy on the 'Policy' tab. Last minute cancellations (including reschedules) that are non-emergency are subject to a cancellation fee. No-Call/No-Shows may result in no longer being able to schedule with me.
